Our Grounds

We have a total of around 8 acres of land here, one day I will measure it. There are several small sitting areas in front of the barns, ideal to sit and watch the sun go down over Bodmin Moor in the distance. You can watch the swallows, and later in the day, the bats, and just chill out. Our garden is behind the Barns, under control, but not yet full of flowers I’m afraid. There are stone steps up the hill to the picnic meadow, with trestle tables and a barbeque. Here you can take in the stunning views over the top of the barns across the fields to Looe and the sea in the distance. At the top of the meadow is our Hot Tub, the perfect place to reflect on your efforts of the day and plan for tomorrow. Seats two comfortably, and available during the summer months.

In the corner of the meadow is a paddock "Penvith Baa" where our sheep are kept from time to time. They are really friendly, and love nothing more than to be hand fed with sheep-cake. Bono is our elderly ram and is probably the friendliest of the flock. He loves to have his head scratched and will come over even when there is no food around. Emma is a little younger (I think) and is a little shy, but will feed from your hand if you are patient. "The Lamb" is the most voracious. A glimpse of the red bucket is all that is needed for her to become your best friend, until the food runs out. A recent addition is Toffee, a diminutive Shetland sheep, complete with mini-horns.

Early in 2005 we started our own herd of Pedigree Alpacas. We have called the herd Sunnydale Alpacas. Our tiny herd of two males and two females has now grown to over 20 animals, with another 10 due to be born here throughout the summer. They are all very tame and love to be hand fed. If you click on the link you can see lots more pictures and read about the herd.

We have both huacaya (fluffy fleece) and suri (dreadlocks) types of alpaca here.

As well as fantastic, luxury fleeces, alpacas are also famed for being guardian animals. We have tested this by putting our flock of ex-battery hens, resued in 2007, under the protection of our boys. Whilst our neighbours lose their chicks regularly to foxes, our hens roam free without any danger.

If you would like to visit and meet these lovely creatures, and even hand feed them, telephone me on 01503 240772 or send me an email.
